The Danish Educational Support Agency is an agency that operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. Its functions are defined in a series of Acts of Parliament. The objectives of its work have been agreed in a result contract between the Director General of the Agency and the Permanent Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Education. Discount on TransportationThe purpose of the Act on Transportation Discount for Students Attending Institutions of Higher Education is to reduce transportation expenses for students who live far from the educational institution (Discount Transportation Card). State Education Grant and Loan Scheme (SU)The purpose of the State Education Grant and Loan Scheme Act (danish acronym SU) is to make sure that as many young people as possible quickly receive a sound education. The State Education Grant and Loan Scheme is the Agency's oldest and largest area of activity, with some 300,000 beneficiaries. State Educational Support for Adults (SVU)The purpose of the Act on State Educational Support for Adults (danish acronym SVU) is to make it financially possible for adults to be able to learn and develop their knowledge throughout life. The scheme is intended for all, but especially those whose education has been brief. Something like 16,000 persons are receiving SVU. Support for vocationally-oriented adult education (VEU)The VEU allowance (allowance for participation in vocationally-oriented adult education and continuing training) is payable for vocationally-oriented adult education up to and including the vocational training level. The VEU allowance is intended to help ensure that those who have received only a brief education can benefit from continuing and further education. Special Educational Assistance (SPS)The purpose of the Act on Special Educational Assistance in Higher Education (danish acronym SPS) is to ensure that students suffering from a physical or mental handicap can receive higher education on an equal footing with other students. About 800 students receive SPS.
